Just a Taste

When One Touch of His Presence Changes Everything

Have you ever tasted something so good it ruined you for everything else? If you know me, or even if you look at my pics, you can tell I'm a girl who appreciates tasty food, be it something from the bakery or a yummy steak! But I've found that there's something even more addictive, if I can use that word, than good food- the presence of God. His Word. His anointing. His daily guidance, reminding you that you're not in this alone.
In 2 Samuel 6, a man named Obed-Edom had the Ark of the Covenant — the very symbol of God’s presence — placed in his house for just three months. During that short time, Scripture says “the Lord blessed Obed-Edom and his entire household.”
But what’s powerful isn’t just that his house was blessed — it’s what happened next.
After the Ark was moved to Jerusalem, Obed-Edom could have stayed home, living on the memory of what God did. Instead, he followed the Ark. He became a gatekeeper and musician in the house of God, choosing daily nearness to God over daily convenience.
Why?
Because once he had tasted God’s presence, he couldn’t get enough. Ordinary life no longer satisfied.
Psalm 84:10 says, “Better is one day in Your courts than a thousand elsewhere.”
For Obed-Edom, that wasn’t just a verse — it was his new reality.
And here’s the beautiful part: his hunger didn’t stop with him. His sons and grandsons also became leaders and gatekeepers in the house of the Lord (1 Chronicles 26:4–8). What began as a moment of blessing became a generational legacy.
God’s presence still changes lives today. The question isn’t, “Have you tasted His goodness?”
The question is, “Has that taste awakened a hunger that keeps drawing you closer?”
Let’s not settle for a memory of what God did once.
Let’s be like Obed-Edom: once we’ve tasted, let’s never be content to live far from His presence.
